We Understand The Needs Of Law Enforcement

In addition to a successful civil practice, David A. Wijewickrama is an FOP referral attorney who represents law enforcement in critical incidents. He is a critical incident responder for officers involved in shootings and currently represents the Yancey County Sheriff's Office and the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. He formerly represented the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina Troopers Association. He has a unique understanding of the laws that impact police officers in our state from a personal, professional and employment standpoint.

In representing government agencies, our firm focuses on civil components such as contracts, employment law issues, and ongoing legal updates that affect plans, policies and procedures. In addition to serving as a staff attorney, David is a certified hostage negotiator, is seeking his mediation certification and has practical experience as it relates to managing internal affairs procedures such as Garrity interviews, investigations, terminations, public records requests, and public information response protocols.

In addition to law enforcement agencies, David has previously represented Tri-County Community college for over 8 years. Specifically, he is involved in their plans, policies, procedures, legal updates and employment law issues as they affect public educational institutions. He has also represented them in ADA, FMLA and title IX issues when needed.
